Preschool Program
Cradle To Crayons is proud to offer a separate preschool program as well as childcare services. Our Preschool 1 class is offered to children who are 3 years old by August 31 and our Prekindergarten class is offered to children who are 4 years old by August 31. The Preschool 1 class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings, while the Prekindergarten class meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If there are enough students enrolled in the Prek class, we will offer both a morning and an afternoon class. A child can enroll for preschool only or the preschool class can be a part of your child's full-time childcare.
Preschool 1 Goals and Objectives
Preschool is a time of growth and development that comes through many changes. Children learn and develop in at least four ways: Physical, Cognitive (thinking), Emotional and Social. Each of these areas will be stimulated through several different activities.
The focus and purpose of our classroom is to reach the child where they are and help them to learn and grow in a positive way. This is done by using HighScope Curriculum and a Christian based background. This sets a foundation that helps us to teach in a way that is appropriate for each child so that they can have the highest level of success in learning. These are some of the things that we do in our class throughout the year.
Circle Time - Circle time begins our time each day. Children and the teacher interact as we introduce the theme of the week, colors, shapes, letters, and numbers. Circle time helps to guide the focus of our day.
Art - The children will learn to cut, glue, color, trace, draw, use fine motor skills, sequences and use their own imaginations and creativity. Positive guidance and instruction from the teacher will help them to develop a creative mind and self.
Language - The children will develop their cognitive skills and develop their communication skills. Recognition of upper case alphabet letters will be taught and reviewed in our preschool 1 class, while in our prek class, recognition of upper and lower case alphabet letters will be taught and reviewed. Each letter will be introduced and taught each week through story, song, and the theme of the week. The writing of the alphabet will be focused on, with special emphasis on the writing and correct spelling of their first name. Opposites, stories, finger plays, poems, some sight words and rhyming words will also be taught.
Math - The preschool 1 class will be able to recognize numbers 1-10 and be able to count to 25. The writing of number 1-10 will be taught and reviewed. Counting by 10's will be introduced. The prek class will be able to recognize numbers 1-15 and be able to count to 50. The writing of numbers 1-20 will be taught and reviewed and counting by 10's and 5's will be introduced.
Music - Through daily use of music, the children will learn counting, gross motor skills, movement, language and social skills. The children will show some of their musical skills in two programs: our Christmas Program and our End of School Picnic.
Science - Children will develop the cognitive, social, and physical areas through science. They will explore many areas of science through projects and experiments. Topics such as animals, plants, growth, the body and many more will be explored. These things will allow the children to learn through self-discovery and teacher guidance.
Sensory - This is a time of exploration and discovery that allows the children to use their sense of touch, taste and smell. This is a time when various textures and flavors will be introduced.
